Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are all your instructors fully qualified?
A: YES! Only an ADI (approved driving instructor) will conduct your lessons. We comply with all training outlined and required by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA). Are instructors are over and above the "minimum standard" by a long shot!
Q: When can I apply for my provisional licence?
A: You can apply for your provisional licence up to 3 months before your 17th birthday (or 16th if you are registered disabled). The easiest way to do this is online via the DVLA.
Q: Can I start taking driving lessons before my theory test?
A: YES! As long as you have a valid provisional licence then you'll be able to take driving lessons after your 17th birthday (or 16th if you are registered disabled).
Q: Do you offer automatic driving lessons in Ipswich?
A: YES! And better still, they're the same price as our MANUAL LESSONS! We don't charge extra.
Q: Will I get to drive the car on my first lesson?
A: YES! You are paying us for driving lessons so you will be driving the car!
Q: What car will I be learning to drive in?
A: We currently have Volkswagen Golf cars with a diesel engine, air conditioning and He Man dual controls fitted.
Q: Where will I drive on my lessons?
A: All our lessons will take you on a whole range of different situations, from town crentre driving, roundabouts and junctions to dual carriageways and country roads.
Q: How can I pay for my driving lessons?
A: Payment can be made by cash, credit/debit card or cheque. A deposit may be taken on your first booking to secure your space in the diary.
Q: What do I need to bring on my driving lessons?
A: We ask that you bring both parts of your provisional licence, your progress log, your theory test certificate, a drink and payment (if you've not pre-paid).
Q: How long are the driving lessons?
A: We are very flexible when it comes to lesson length. We do 1 hour lessons within the local area. Our 2 hour lessons are the most common and good value for money. We also do 4 hour blocks as well as full 6 hour days. It's entirely up to you but as a general rule, the more you can do in 1 go, the more you will get out of the lesson. An hour really isn't that long.
Q: How many driving lessons will I need?
A: The question really is as good as "how long is a piece of string". Everyone is different and different people learn at different rates. Some people can pass a test with less than 8 hours tuition; others can take upwards of 60 hours. On average the DSA recommends 45 hours with a qualified ADI as well as additional private practise.
Q: Will I have the same instructor every time?
A: Yes. Unless due to illness, you will always have the same driving instructor.
Q: How much does the theory test & practical driving test cost?
A: The current cost of tests are outlined here on the gov.uk website. Please ensure you book your test directly though the gov.uk website.
Q: Do I use the instruction car for the test?
A: Yes, you will use the same car you learnt to drive in when you take your test. This is to make sure you have the very best possible start. It can be tricky getting used to a different car at the last minute!
Q: Can I learn with you in my own car?
A: Yes, as long as we are satisfied that the car is correctly insured and road legal then there is no reason why you cannot. A small discount may be available as well!
Q: When I pass my theory, how long is it valid for?
A: From the date of completion, the theory test is valid for 2 years. You will need to take your practical driving test within these 2 years and pass. If you exceed the 2 year limit you will have to re-sit the theory test.
Q: Do I need to have completed my theory test before I start an intensive course with you?
A: We recommend that you only start the intensive course once your theory is complete. Waiting times for a theory test can be between 2 & 3 weeks and for driving tests between 4 & 8 weeks. Also, you cannot book a practical test until you have passed your theory.
Q: Can you book my practical test for me?
A: We are happy to book a practical driving test for you as long as your theory test has been completed and passed. We do not charge anything extra for booking your practical driving test. If you book the test yourself then please ensure you book directly though the DSA and not an online third party or booking agency.
Q: Can you recommend any products to help me with my driving test?
A: There are various publications available. For both theory and practical tests the Official Highway Code is useful. You can also see our list of top 10 tips to pass your driving test!
